Spirit of Monmouth Running Club Awarded a Share of nearly £300,000 in Cash Seized from Criminals
Spirit of Monmouth Running Club has been awarded funding of £1,500 from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent’s Partnership Fund which is funded by the proceeds of crime awarded to the police and from the sale of unclaimed found property.
The latest round of the Commissioner’s Partnership Fund was made available in January 2017 for charities, voluntary organisations and community groups in Gwent involved in activities that have a positive impact on their communities.
Each group was able to apply for between £250 up to £10,000 from the money available and had to demonstrate how their project delivered against the Commissioner’s police and crime priorities which are crime prevention; supporting victims; community cohesion; and dealing with anti-social behaviour. The Commissioner also proactively welcomed applications for projects that are delivered through the medium of Welsh or are bilingual.
Following a rigorous process of assessing each bid on its merits, a total of 82organisations or groups in Gwent, including Spirit of Monmouth Running Club, have been notified that their bid has been successful. Nearly £300,000has been awarded under the latest round.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, said: “I would like to congratulate all the projects funded on their success. I know that small amounts of funding can often make a big difference to people’s lives and can sometimes be the catalyst which can help small community projects to develop, grow and help even more people The Partnership Fund is a fantastic way of putting money we have seized from criminals back into the public purse so it can be used for positive community action.”
Karen Barratt, Chairperson of Spirit of Monmouth Running Club added:
“The funding we have been awarded by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent’s Partnership Fund will be used to train some of our members to lead or coach running groups. Running is increasing in popularity and new members join the club every month. The training will help keep our runners safe while running in the local area. Running is an excellent way to improve physical and mental wellbeing and we are pleased to be able to put money from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent’s Partnership Fund to positive use for people within our community”
