This year we achieved our highest ever position in the Rack Raid - 5th! Well done to all of the runners who took part and thank you to everyone who supported along the way.

A team of eighteen runners took part in the Devauden 10km trail race on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May. Despite the rain, the team put in some strong performances in the race. The first runner home for the club was Alice Taylor, who finished fifteenth overall, in a field of 180 runners. Alice completed the challenging course in 44:23 and was placed third in the Female Open category. The fastest male runner for the club was George Smith, finishing in 45:21. Ten Spirit of Monmouth runners finished in the top one hundred positions and are now the proud owners of the coveted Top 100 t-shirt. Well done everyone.
London Marathon and Offa's Orror
Congratulations to Julia Davis (pictured), who has completed her first ever marathon. Julia raised a fantastic £759 for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk in the process. Well done Julia!
Well done also to experienced marathoners Stephen Prior and Madeleine Newcomb for completing the London Marathon.
There were more great performances at Offa's Orror and the Parc Bryn Bach 6-mile Road Race on the same day. Great running everyone!
Over 250 runners took part in the 2016 Kymin Dash. Spirit of Monmouth Runner Alice Taylor was "Queen of the Hill" (first lady to the top of the Kymin) and was 2nd lady overall - well done Alice!
Dozens of Spirit of Monmouth running club members volunteered to help with the race, from car parking to registration and marshalling. The race was organised by Emma King (race director), John Pringle, Stuart Kramer, Lee James and Karen Barratt.
The race raised over £1,000 for St Michaels Hospice in Hereford and the final total is boosted by the Barclays Bank matched funding programme.

Tony Hardy took part in the Llanelli Marathon on 19th April 2016, finishing in 4:56:09. This was Tony's fourth marathon. Well done Tony!
Eight Spirit of Monmouth runners ran the Manchester Marathon on April 10th 2016. Gareth Jones (not pictured) was the fastest runner, finishing in 3:00:01 in his first ever marathon.
Rob Nicholls was also running his first ever marathon and finished in 3:23:56.
There were PBs for Sally Gilson, Jeremy Masters, David Mather and Martin Blakebrough too. Well done everyone!
Spirit of Monmouth Running Club are supporting the Devauden Cross-Country Races for 2016. The 10k course is very scenic; it is run on forestry tracks and trails. There are also races for children of all ages.
GLCL Cross-Country 2015/16 Series Round-up
Spirit of Monmouth's cross-country teams have had another successful season. The club takes part in the competitive Gwent Leisure Centre League cross-country series, which consists of five races across Gwent between September and March.
Caroline Jones, World champion triathlete, won her age category convincingly, placing first in each of the races she ran with the team.
Other top ten category finishers for the ladies were Jo Marsh of Dingestow, who placed seventh and Trish Bicknell, who placed ninth in her category.
The ladies team finished the series in sixth position overall - a great result.
The men's team also saw some strong results - especially in the 50 to 54 age category, where Spirit of Monmouth runners made up three of the top ten positions. Russell Finch took third place, Martin Blakebrough of Llanishen came fourth and Tony Hardy was seventh.
Jeremy Creasey of Catbrook took fifth position in his category, while Brian Evans of Trellech placed sixth in his. David Rutter of Llandogo came sixth in his category.
Overall, the men's team finished in a respectable eighth position.
The teams are now looking forward to May, when the League's Road Race Series begins. This is made up of five races of approximately 10km distance, held on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer months in various locations across Gwent.

Spirit of Monmouth runners represented the club at the IAAF Cardiff Half Marathon in March 2016. Gareth Jones was first home for the club, in a time of 1 hour 23 minutes. Gail Richards and Matt Wood were participating in their first ever half marathon. Some great performances, despite wind and hail during the race!
Fourteen of our runners were mentioned in the Free Press 24th March edition for various race successes, including the Silverstone Half Marathon, Berkeley 20/20, Black mountains trails 10 miler, Pontypool Gwent Leisure Centre Leauge Cross-Country and the Forest of Dean Spring Half Marathon. Well done everyone!
