It's the Kymin Dash on Sunday! If you have volunteered to help and are not sure when you need to arrive etc - please contact Stuart Kramer or Emma King asap. Pre-entries are at a record high and the forecast is looking good, so it looks like it will be an excellent day!

Friday 24th March

No club on Tuesday as it is our AGM, 7:30pm at the Royal Oak. If you're planning to attend, please let Emma King know asap as there will be refreshments provided.

Club resumes as normal from Thursday.

It's not too late to volunteer to be a Committee member. If you're interested, please speak to one of the current Committee.

Saturday 25th is Tony Hardy's 100th Parkrun and he's celebrating by bringing cakes. For anyone wishing to join him, it's 9am at Coleford (The Forest of Dean Parkrun)

On Tuesday 28th there will be no club run as it is the AGM. It will be held at the Royal Oak, all members should have received an email in addition to the Facebook post and notices at Club. If you wish to come along, please let Emma King know, so we know numbers for food.

Eleanor and Emma Griffiths are stepping down from their Committee roles as Treasurer and Secretary respectively. If you are interested in either role, please speak to them to find out more. The Committee meet approximately every 6 weeks, often after a Tuesday club night.

There is a GLCL Cross-Country at Usk on Sunday. Please car-share if you can. People will be meeting at Club to lift share at 9:45am. More details about the race here or on Facebook. Good luck to our teams!

There are some social events and our AGM coming up in February and March. More details to follow, but the dates for your diary can be found here.

If anyone is interested in attending a one (weekend) day LIRF (Leadership in Running Fitness) course, please let a Committee member know or respond to the Facebook post. This qualification covers leading groups of runners and is recommended if you lead (or would like to lead) groups on Club nights.

Happy New Year! Hope you all had a great Christmas and you topped up your glycogen stores ready for some 2017 running fun

The Kymin winter fell race is on Saturday afternoon from the Boys' School Sports Club.

We are hosting the GLCL XC on Sunday at Humble by Nature in Penallt. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help with marshaling and good luck to our runners. PLEASE car share as parking is very limited. 

February's Championship race is the Pontypool 10km, which is close to full, so if you'd like to run it, please enter very soon.

Friday 16th December

The Sports Club will be closed for Christmas next week, so our Tuesday and Thursday runs will start from Agincourt Square (near the Shire Hall, Punch House etc) at 7:30pm. These will be group runs.

The remainder of our New to Running group will be doing their Parkrun at Tredegar House (Newport) tomorrow morning (Saturday 17th) - please go along to support them if you can.

Friday 9th December

Christmas Party and Annual Awards night tomorrow. I wonder who will win?!

Tuesday is the Tinsel Trot, a treasure hunt around Monmouth followed by drinks. Please be ready to leave Club at 7:30pm and wear festive fancy dress if you can!

Friday 2nd December

Santa Fun Run on Sunday, all helpers should hopefully know when and where they need to be - any questions, please ask Stuart Kramer. The forecast is looking good - cold and sunny.

A "New to Running" course has been underway for the last couple of months - next Tuesday (6th) will be the last Tuesday session before everyone goes for the big 5K at Tredegar House (Newport) Park Run. Half the group will do this on 10th December and half on the 17th.  If any club members fancy running Newport on those days, it would be great to give them some added moral support

Friday 25th November

From December 1st, Thursday group runs will start at 7:30pm. This is as a result of the response to the recent club survey and will be trialled until the next AGM.

The final Club Championship race of the year is the Howling Bull Run at Walford on Sunday 27th. It is a muddy and hilly 10km trail run through some beautiful countryside.

Just over a week until the Santa Fun Run. Please tell all your friends, like and share the Facebook page and event and of course, come along on the day if you can!

The social at the Royal Oak after Club on Tuesday 29th has been postponed to the new year due to hectic schedules, so the next social is the Annual Awards and Christmas Party on December 10th.

Friday 28th October

Tuesday's run is the Spirit Run, approx 5 miles, leaving from Club at 7:30pm and heading along the river to the Royal George at Symond's Yat. It will be very dark so please bring a torch. Halloween fancy dress (optional) - prizes for each speed group.

Friday 21st October

Speed session on Tuesday.

November 2nd is the Spirit run - a 5-mile run in the dark, in fancy dress (optional) along the river to Symond's Yat, with food and minibus return. Please speak to Emma King for more details or to let her know you'd like to attend.

Championship race - Yorkley Gallop - on Sunday 23rd. Also the first GLCL cross-country of the season at Rogerstone, near Newport, plus the Welsh Cross-Country Championships are being held on Sunday afternoon at the Monmouth showground.

The Santa Fun Run 2016 has been announced - more information here - please put the date in your diary and let Stuart Kramer know if you are able to help on the day.

GLCL on Tuesday 2nd August at Pontypool, please come along if you can. The course is the same as the Pontypool 10km open race, so fairly flat.

The Skirrid walk (or run) is on Wednesday 6th, please let Emma King know if you're going along.

The Tintern Trot is on Thursday 7th. This is a hilly c.10km race in lovely scenery around Tintern and the Offa's Dyke path - highly recommended!

Friday 24th June

This weekend's big event is the Cotswold Way Relay! 20 runners in two teams will each run part of the 103 miles of the Cotswold Way, from Chipping Campden to Bath. Please check Facebook throughout the day for information on how the team is getting on.

The next social event is a sunset walk (or run) up Skirrid mountain and pub on Wednesday 6th July. Please let Emma King know if you would like to go along.

Online entry is open for the Tintern Trot - a beautiful, hilly 10km trail race at 7:30pm on Thursday 7th July. You can also enter on the night if it hasn't already sold out.

Friday 17th June

GLCL on Tuesday in Magor. Will be approx 6 miles, flat and on roads. Please see Facebook for car-sharing information. If you have never done one of these before and want to come along, please give Emma King your DOB and you will need a club vest. 

There will be a smaller club night at the usual time and place, too.

On Tuesday we will be taking a new club photo after notices so please wear vest or some kind of club kit if you can. If you have spares, please bring them so someone without can borrow something - thanks!

Rose Inn race 2 is on Tuesday, too.

Thursday - in addition to the usual Monmouth group run there is a group run from Trellech, starting and ending at the Lion at 7:30pm. This is to recce the route for a potential new c.10km race. There is a hill and it is trails with muddy parts. All abilities welcome. Did I mention it ends at the Lion?!

Good luck to everyone running in the Whitebrook Windup - a championship race - this Sunday, 12th. They usually accept entries on the day so it's not too late to give it a go!

Friday 3rd June

Rack Raid on Sunday. Thirteen club members will be racing around Gwent. The weather forecast is looking very warm - I pity the runner who is running at 4pm when it is forecast to be 24 degrees....oh wait, that's me *gulp*.

Friday 20th May

Club night on Tuesday will be a coached session.

The Forest of Dean AC have a Thursday evening race this week, a brand new 5-mile multi-terrain race at Parkend called the Fountain Five. Please see here for more details.

Friday 13th May

On Tuesday, Club will be a group run and quieter than usual as many members will be heading to Cwmbran for the first GLCL road race of the season.

For anyone who hasn't done one of these before, they are free for any club member to enter (you just need to tell Emma King your DOB), you will also need to wear a club vest. Please see the Facebook page for car-sharing information or to borrow a vest if you don't have one yet.

The races are great fun (especially this one as it's quite flat!) and open to runners of all abilities. We need a minimum number of runners to make up a team so please don't think you will be too slow as you won't be alone and you just might be the person we need to make up a team.

And if none of that convinces you, there is a pub at the end! Hope to see you there.

Friday 6th May

Lots of local races to choose from this weekend. The Race for Wildlife is a flat 10k on roads at Undy. The Sorbrook Slog is a hillier 7m with some off-road. At Hereford there is a choice of 5k, 10k or half marathon and at Speech House there is a choice of 5k or 10k trail races. Don't forget you can also check the club calendar for upcoming races. Good luck to everyone who races!

Tuesday's club night will be a speed session led by David Mather.

And of course the social at Pizza Express is on Saturday, which should be great fun!

Friday 29th April

Bank holiday weekend! Monday May 2nd is the Devauden 10km, which is a really nice route along undulating forestry tracks and trails. It is a Championship race too. Good luck to everyone taking part.

We also have a team running local race "Offa's Orror", which is a really tough and hilly 20km. Good luck to you all!

It's the Kymin Dash on Sunday 17th, which many of us have volunteered to help out with. There have been over 200 pre-entries so far, so it should be an exciting event. Fingers crossed for the weather - the current forecast is cool and sunny.

The big event this week for some of our runners is the Manchester Marathon on Sunday - good luck everyone!

Club night on Tuesday 12th will be a coached session led by David Mather (Allan Meek will be recovering from aforementioned marathon and attending a committee meeting). Thanks for stepping in David.
